San Francisco Law
School is a non-profit institution, founded in 1909, and dedicated
solely to the purpose of providing law students a thorough alternative
to the full time study of law. Both the regular four year program,
and the extended four-and-a-half year program are designed for students
who wish to attend law school while maintaining daytime job or family
responsibilities. Students completing the program are awarded the
degree of Doctor of Jurisprudence (J.D.).
For over eighty-nine years, San Francisco Law School's
objective has been to develop in each student the skills and practical
abilities necessary for a successful career in the legal profession.
The faculty comprises a distinguished group of Bay Area judges and
attorneys who practice in the subjects they teach, and who are --
above all -- dedicated to excellence in their profession. The ratio
of students to instructors is about seven to one, and average class
sizes are 20 - 30 students each. This intimate setting ensures that
students have direct interaction with their instructors and colleagues
in class, building important relationships for the future.
As the oldest evening law school in the western
United States, San Francisco Law School was one of the first in
California to actively seek out and enroll women and minority students.
Today the School's ongoing commitment to diversity is still unmistakable.
The student body is made up of mature men and women, representing
many different professions and with equally different aspirations.
This diversity of experience, opinion, and background lends a dynamic
element to the academic community and enhances the interactive nature
of the program.
Over the years, graduates of San Francisco Law
School have regularly achieved impressive successes. Among the school's
outstanding alumni are California State Governor, the late Edmund
G. (Pat) Brown, former Lt. Governor Leo T. McCarthy, former Undersecretary
of The United States Department of Energy, Joseph F. Salgado, past
President of The State Bar of California, P. Terry Anderlini and
past President of The National Bar Association, Thomas J. Broome.
Also, State Senator Milton Marks, Superior and Municipal Court Judges
Victor Campilango, Merle R. Eaton, Eugene W. Krum, Betty L. Lamoreaux,
Philip J. Moscone, Lynn O'Malley Taylor, and Marilyn Pestarino Zecher
to name a few, as well as countless other renowned and distinguished
Bay Area and California attorneys.
Choosing the right law school may be the most important
decision a lawyer makes during his or her career. We -- the faculty,
staff, and administration of San Francisco Law School -- are delighted
that you are considering becoming a member of the San Francisco
Law School community.
